This is a pioneering book hard to read and yet insightful and thought-provoking. Each chapter begins with an introduction of science-based observations on life systems life applied to the organizational world later on in the chapter. Margaret Weatley demonstrates how our model for organizational theory derives from Newtonian physics and how such approach is not sufficient to describe all the intricated relations that occurr inside organizations. Her approach to quantum physics provides a revolutionary new paradigm to human activity such as:

  1. Why aren't organizations working well? Relationship networks that exist in organization are devalued. There is a growing demand for spiritual experiences in people’s relationships and work environments.
  2. Why is progress coming from unexpected places or synchronistic events? Sheldrake postulated the existence of morphic fields that influence the behavior of the species. Leaders are encouraged to observe the impact of intangible forces in organizations: culture, values, vision, and ethics and the need to develop relational leadership capability.
  3. Why do projects fail to achieve any significant results? Strategic thinking is not enough. To create the organization that we want, we must interact consciously with other people and engage only in activities aligned with the vision of what we want to accomplish. Otherwise, organizations get tossed and turned by shifts in the environment.
  4. How do complex systems change? Systems change when a critical business need emerges. Systems change as companies begin identifying core values and promoting core values from the top. Network relationships give power to the system and facilitate change, as people understand the big picture, Regular Positive/Negative feedback accelerate change itself.
